Position Summary:
Openwork is seeking reliable, safety-focused Bulk Material Transfer Operators for an industrial plastic resin facility in Baytown, TX.

This is a hands-on industrial position responsible for safely transferring plastic resin pellets and other bulk materials from hopper railcars into storage silos or designated production lines. Operators connect transfer hoses, prepare railcars for unloading, operate bulk-transfer equipment, and continuously monitor the process to maintain safe and accurate material flow.
This is not a traditional warehouse, packaging, or order-fulfillment position. Candidates must be comfortable working around railcars, industrial equipment, transfer lines, silos, and plastic resin materials in an outdoor plant environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Safely transfer plastic resin pellets and other bulk materials from hopper railcars into storage silos or designated production lines.
  • Connect and disconnect cargo hoses, transfer lines, and related equipment according to operating procedures.
  • Inspect hoses, connections, valves, fittings, and transfer equipment before beginning operations.
  • Set up required rail-yard safety devices, including blue flags and wheel chocks.
  • Verify railcar numbers, product information, destination silos, and transfer instructions before unloading.
  • Operate and monitor bulk-material transfer equipment throughout the unloading process.
  • Monitor pressure, material flow, equipment performance, and silo levels during transfers.
  • Watch for leaks, spills, blockages, contamination, product loss, or equipment malfunctions.
  • Stop transfer operations and immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or product discrepancies.
  • Prevent cross-contamination by confirming that materials are transferred into the correct silo or production line.
  • Complete transfer logs, inspection forms, and other required documentation accurately.
  • Assist with clearing transfer lines and performing basic equipment troubleshooting as directed.
  • Clean hoses, tools, equipment, and work areas after each transfer.
  • Maintain a clean and organized rail yard and surrounding work area.
  • Perform general labor, basic maintenance, and additional operational duties as assigned.
  • Follow all PPE requirements, safety procedures, quality standards, and site operating instructions.

Requirements:
  • Previous experience in industrial operations, bulk-material handling, railcar unloading, chemical plants, plastics, manufacturing, or a similar environment is strongly preferred.
  • Must be comfortable working around railcars, silos, transfer hoses, valves, and industrial equipment.
  • Must successfully complete the client’s General Knowledge Exam for transfer equipment.
  • Ability to follow written operating procedures and detailed material-transfer instructions.
  • Ability to identify product information, railcar numbers, silo numbers, and transfer destinations accurately.
  • Ability to lift up to 55 pounds and safely handle industrial hoses and equipment.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders, work at heights, kneel, bend, reach, and stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in heat, cold, rain, dust, and changing weather conditions.
  • Ability to work rotating 12-hour day and night shifts.
  • Must be available to work weekends, holidays, overtime, and additional hours based on operational needs.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Strong attendance, punctuality, attention to detail, and commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work independently and remain alert throughout the transfer process.

Preferred Experience:
Candidates with experience in the following areas are encouraged to apply:
  • Railcar or hopper-car unloading.
  • Bulk-material transfer.
  • Plastic resin or polymer facilities.
  • Chemical or petrochemical plants.
  • Transfer hoses, valves, pumps, or pneumatic systems.
  • Silos and production-feed systems.
  • Industrial manufacturing.
  • Plant or terminal operations.
  • Outdoor industrial labor.

Important:
This position involves working around railcars and transferring bulk plastic resin through industrial hoses and equipment. It is not a forklift-only, warehouse-packing, food-packaging, or e-commerce order-fulfillment position.
