International Freight Forwarding & Ocean Export Operations

Openwork is hiring an experienced Ocean Export Agent for an established international logistics company in Houston, TX 77073. This position is ideal for a freight-forwarding professional with strong, hands-on ocean export experience who can independently manage international shipments from booking through vessel departure.

Qualified candidates must have at least 3 years of ocean freight-forwarding or international logistics experience, including direct experience managing ocean export shipments.

Position at a Glance:

Location: Houston, TX 77073
Pay: $24.00–$25.00 per hour | Weekly Pay
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:30 PM
Employment Type: Full-Time
Overtime & Weekends: Occasional, based on business needs

What You'll Be Doing:

Manage ocean export shipments from booking through vessel departure.
Coordinate bookings with ocean carriers and NVOCCs.
Confirm sailing schedules, routing, cutoffs, and equipment availability.
Coordinate with truckers, warehouses, terminals, steamship lines, overseas offices, and customers.
Track shipments and address delays or service issues.
Provide customers with shipment status and documentation updates.
Prepare and review Bills of Lading, Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, Export Declarations, Shipping Instructions, and related export documents.
Maintain accurate shipment records and assist with invoicing and file closeout.
Ensure shipments meet customer, carrier, and destination-country requirements.
Manage multiple shipments and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and customer service.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum 3 years of ocean freight-forwarding or international logistics experience.
Direct, hands-on ocean export experience — REQUIRED.
Experience managing ocean export shipments from booking through vessel departure.
Strong knowledge of ocean export procedures and documentation.
Experience working with ocean carriers, NVOCCs, truckers, terminals, and overseas offices.
Knowledge of Incoterms.
Experience with freight-forwarding or logistics systems.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Strong customer service and communication skills.
Strong organization and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple shipments, accounts, and deadlines.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to respond quickly to shipment issues.

Additional Experience That Stands Out:

Knowledge of FMC regulations and export compliance.
Experience with Japan trade lanes or overseas offices.
Hazardous cargo experience.
High-volume international freight-forwarding experience.
