Location: Downtown Houston Area
Pay: $24.00 per hour | Weekly Pay
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (weekends as needed)
Employment Type: Temp-to-Hire

Make a Difference Through Community Health Education
Openwork is partnering with a local government agency to hire a dedicated Wellness & Prevention Specialist to support community health initiatives throughout Harris County. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about public health, education, and helping others make healthier lifestyle choices.

In this position, you will help educate individuals and communities on tobacco and vaping prevention, cessation resources, and asthma control programs while supporting outreach and engagement efforts across the county.

What You’ll Do:
  • Provide evidence-based tobacco/vaping prevention and cessation education to individuals and groups.
  • Educate community members on asthma awareness and control strategies.
  • Assist with creating program materials, presentations, and training content.
  • Participate in outreach activities, community events, and health fairs.
  • Build relationships with schools, healthcare providers, and community organizations.
  • Track participant information, program data, and outreach metrics.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reports.
  • Stay informed on current public health trends, research, and best practices.
  • Support additional program activities and community initiatives as needed.

What We’re Looking For:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in community engagement, public health programs, or related work.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships in diverse community settings.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Comfortable working with the public and collaborating with team members.
  • Must be able to use a personal mobile device for multi-factor authentication access.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand for extended periods during outreach events.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
